Dementia Prevention

Workshop Overview
Did you know that up to 45% of dementia cases could be delayed or prevented by addressing key lifestyle factors across the lifespan?

In this interactive workshop, we explore the 14 modifiable risk factors for dementia identified in The Lancet medical journal, showing how evidence-based lifestyle changes can significantly reduce long-term risk.

Across two sessions, participants will engage in hands-on, group-based activities using Drs. Sherzai’s NEURO framework (Nutrition, Exercise, Unwind, Restore, Optimise) to develop practical, personalised strategies for brain health. The workshop is designed to be collaborative, reflective, and empowering.

Participants who complete the full two-part series will receive a take-home booklet, “Practical Guide for a Healthier Brain”.

Who is this for:

This workshop is ideal for those aged 45–65, and for anyone who has a family member with dementia and wants to feel more informed, empowered, and proactive about brain health.

What Participants Will Gain - An understanding of the 14 modifiable risk factors for dementia and how they influence brain health. - A sense of empowerment, knowing that dementia risk is not fixed by genes or family history — many factors are within your control.
- Practical lifestyle strategies to support brain health.
- Hands‑on learning through interactive activities and small‑group discussions.
- Connection with like‑minded people who are motivated to protect their brain health and support loved ones.
- Actionable takeaways to begin implementing immediately after the workshop.
- A comprehensive booklet to guide continued progress after the workshop.

The Science Behind the Workshop
The 2024 Lancet Commission report on dementia indicates that nearly half of dementia cases worldwide are linked to modifiable lifestyle and environmental factors. This workshop translates that science into practical, everyday habits. Using the NEURO framework from the renowned Dr Dean and Dr Ayesha Sherzai — researchers, neurologists, and co‑directors of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Program at Loma Linda University, California — participants learn how nutrition, physical activity, stress reduction, restorative sleep, and cognitive engagement work together to protect the brain and build long‑term resilience.

What’s Covered in Part 1

Part 1 lays the foundation for understanding dementia and how lifestyle choices influence long-term brain health.

We begin by exploring what dementia is, the different types, and how genetics do — and do not — affect individual risk. Participants are introduced to the 14 modifiable risk factors identified by The Lancet, gaining clarity on which areas of life have the greatest impact and why midlife is such a critical window for prevention.

From there, we dive into the first pillar of the N-E-U-R-O framework: Nutrition. Participants learn the core principles of balanced eating to fuel and protect brain cells, including how nutrients support memory, focus, and long-term cognitive resilience.

This session is highly interactive. Working in small groups, participants will have the opportunity to: Reflect on their current eating patterns Build their own Balanced Plate models for breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner Use real-life examples based on what they already eat. Collaborate with others to generate practical, personalised ideas they can start using immediately

What’s Covered in Part 2

This workshop is for those participants who have already attended Part 1 of this series.

In Part 2, we explore the remaining pillars of the N‑E‑U‑R‑O framework - Exercise, Unwind, Restorative Sleep, and Optimising Your Brain, and how each one supports long‑term cognitive health.

We work together in small groups to reflect on what gets in the way of healthy habits and uncover simple, realistic strategies to move forward. We also take a closer look at our stress and sleep patterns, choosing small changes that can make a meaningful difference. Finally, we explore how different parts of the brain function and consider enjoyable activities that help strengthen cognitive connections.

All of these concepts come to life through fun, hands‑on games and interactive activities, making the learning practical, engaging, and easy to apply in everyday life.

At the conclusion of this workshop, we’ll give you a “Practical Guide for a Healthier Brain” booklet so you can walk away feeling confident, supported, and clear on the steps you can take to improve your brain health.

Places are intentionally limited to keep the workshop intimate, ensuring each participant receives personalised support and gets the most out of the experience.
